Museo delle Civiltà ISPRA. Verso un museo multispecie: animali, vegetali, rocce e minerali: le Collezioni ISPRA Verso un museo multispecie, un nuovo allestimento dedicato alle collezioni paleontologiche e lito-mineralogiche dell’ISPRA-Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale.
Concepita come introduzione alla storia e ai metodi di ricerca di queste collezioni, la presentazione presso il Salone d’Onore al primo piano del Palazzo delle Scienze costituisce l’avvio della progressiva musealizzazione delle collezioni ISPRA al Museo delle Civiltà, che si completerà entro il 2024 al secondo piano del museo, integrando e completando il percorso delle collezioni preistoriche.
Il progetto è il risultato della collaborazione tra la Direzione Generale Musei del Ministero della Cultura, attraverso il Museo delle Civiltà, e l’ISPRA-Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale / Sistema Nazionale per la Protezione dell’Ambiente, con il sostegno di ALES-Arte Lavoro e Servizi spa.
Le collezioni ISPRA sono costituite da oltre 150.000 fossili animali e vegetali, campioni di rocce e minerali, rilievi geologici, strumentazioni scientifiche, busti, ritratti, cimeli e documentazioni che formavano le Collezioni Paleontologiche, Lito-Mineralogiche e Storiche del Servizio Geologico d’Italia.
Nel loro insieme, queste collezioni documentano l’attività di studiosi che, in accordo con il pensiero positivistico del XIX secolo, assegnarono alla scienza un ruolo imprescindibile nei confronti della nascita di un’industria moderna, ponendo l’essere umano e il suo controllo dell’ambiente naturale al centro di possibili processi di sviluppo storico e sociale, che oggi risulta urgente approfondire.
Come per le collezioni preistoriche, il Museo delle Civiltà propone quindi un’interpretazione di queste collezioni quale possibile premessa di un museo antropologico multi-specie, ovvero che documenta le forme di coesistenza fra le specie animali, minerali e vegetali e trae da esse sollecitazioni che contribuiscono a reimpostare il nostro rapporto con l’ecosistema in cui anche noi, come esseri umani, conviviamo con le altre specie.
Per avviare queste riflessioni il Museo delle Civiltà propone una serie di attività di approfondimento organizzate in collaborazione con una pluralità di esperti e di altre istituzioni.
Intrecciando scienza, scienze umane e sociali, arte e pensiero speculativo, le attività proposte analizzeranno in particolare la nozione elaborata dalla filosofa e biologa Donna Haraway di “compost” e “compostaggio”, che è il risultato di un processo biologico – l’ossidazione e umificazione delle materie organiche da parte da micro e macro-organismi – che rimanda ai concetti di suolo, scarto e fertilità.
Riscoprendo la capacità internamente trasformativa delle materie, il Salone delle Scienze si riconfigura così come l’ambiente fertile e vitale in cui prefigurare le infinite potenzialità derivanti dall’alleanza tra tutte le forme del vivente e la genesi di forme di conoscenza ibride e interdisciplinari.
In occasione dell’inaugurazione è tornato a risplendere – grazie a un nuovo progetto di illuminazione museografica – anche la monumentale tarsia marmorea che Mario Tozzi realizzò all’inizio degli anni 1940 nel contesto del programma decorativo dedicato a protagonisti e storie delle discipline scientifiche nel Palazzo delle Scienze, progettato per ospitare la mostra scientifica dell’Esposizione Universale di Roma del 1942.
La tarsia è realizzata in pietre e marmi italiani, il cui utilizzo a fini architettonici e decorativi è documentato anche nelle collezioni ISPRA.
Nel percorso di visita entrano inoltre in dialogo con le collezioni ISPRA gli interventi di tre artiste contemporanee: le opere di Adriana Bustos, Marzia Migliora e Otonong Nkanga mettono in azione l’allestimento attraverso le prospettive fornite da dialoghi immaginifici tra le differenti specie, suggerendo la possibilità di nuove esperienze degli oggetti esposti e connettendo le loro storie alle attuali emergenze climatiche e geologiche.
